Iconic Fashion from Movies

Who doesn’t like a good movie? The popcorn, the Icee, the comfy lounge chair all go into making it a great movie experience. The movie is even BETTER, though, when it has amazing fashion in it. Movies can show fashion in the past, current fashion, or even make new fashion trends. Coming back from Halloweekend, I saw just how influential movies can be. So many people were dressed as their favorite movie characters, and most of these movie characters had iconic outfits. Here are just a few:

Seven Year Itch

Now if you’re anything like me, you have absolutely no idea what movie this is; however, it actually has probably one of the most iconic fashion scenes of any movie. When I was trying to think of movies for this post, I decided to look some up to see if I was missing any important ones so that’s where I found this movie. Although I haven’t seen this movie, I know Marilyn Monroe’s iconic white dress picture. I have seen numerous people during Halloween dress up as Marilyn Monroe in a dress similar and try to recreate the picture (it usually only showed a vague resemblance). I assume this movie is pretty good, and I may go watch it since I love me a good movie.

Clueless

This movie is actually older than I am, and I’ve only seen it once. The acting was definitely sub-par, but the fashion has held true for girls that are my age and younger. The yellow, plaid schoolgirl outfit is a favorite of many college girls for their Halloween costumes. Another iconic outfit from this movie, though, is the mini red dress, red heels, and white boa (although less people decide to wear this when dressing up as Cher Horowitz for Halloween). Personally, I like this outfit better than the schoolgirl one, but I will say that the plaid outfit is much more recognizable from Clueless than the red mini dress.

Grease

Although this movie is MUCH older than me, it is one of the iconic in terms of fashion. You got the classic greaser for the boys and the pink ladies for the girls. I’ve seen so many couples dress up as this for Halloween. Girls could also be greaser Sandy, which, in my opinion, is even more iconic and edgy. The fashion in this movie is amazing, but the movie itself is also a work of art and will be regarded as a classic forever. I highly recommend watching this movie if you haven’t.

Great Gatsby

This movie itself only has iconic fashion because it takes place in the 1920s; however, the movie recreates it very well. The women wear the classic flapper dress with a beaded, diamond headband and the men a nice suit (that can be colored). On Halloween, a lot of people typically don’t dress in these clothes (too much work), but there are parties throughout the semester that sometimes have a 1920s theme to them. Now if your someone who wants the tea on the movie compared to the book, I believe the movie follows the book very well.

Legally Blonde

One of my favorite movies, which features the iconic color – pink. Elle Woods outfits can be copied in many forms for Halloween. This year Kim Kardashian decided to dress up as Elle, which shows just how historic her fashion is. The movie itself is amazing, and I highly recommend watching it if you haven’t already.

I hope you learned a little bit more about iconic fashion shown in movies, and maybe even add some movies to your “to watch” list! Keep these iconic fashion trends in the back of your mind for next Halloween!
