Hey Guys!

This past weekend I went through one of the most terrible things a human can: jean shopping. Not as if it is hard enough on it’s own, I had a strange experience. I grabbed what I thought was your typical pair of ripped jeans. You know what I’m talking about - the ones with a slit on the knees and maybe some loose strings around the pockets. These jeans were different…. As I went to try them on, I realize they were intact in the front, but the back was completely distressed. This bamboozled me, and so I decided to share my opinion on back ripped jeans.

They’re completely ridiculous!

Before grabbing the pitchforks and torches, let me explain. I buy jeans to cover my legs and keep me protected from the outside elements. If my jeans have rips all along the backside, they leave the backs of my thighs unprotected. I’m not sure about you guys, but having a cool breeze run across the back of my legs does not sound appealing to me in the middle of winter.

In addition to their lack of practicality, I have a more personal reason for my frustration with ripped jeans. The style of the distressed parts on the jeans makes it look almost as if the wearer squatted down to pick up a dropped textbook and tore her pants. As a thick thighed individual who has experienced this happening in real life, it is incredibly embarrassing and doesn't come off as fashionable and cool. More like cringe. The idea that someone paid money to wear jeans that make them look like a busted can of biscuits baffles me.

A specific style of the ripped jeans in to have slits right underneath the back pockets, highlighting a specific body part if you catch my drift. Maybe it’s my Catholic School dress code conditioning kicking in, but I thought the point of pants was to cover your bum.

Finally, the placement of the rips on jeans lessens their durability. The back of your jeans take the brute of friction. They bend with your walking and sitting and rub against chairs and backpacks. The slits along the backside of jeans makes them more prone to tearing to the point of being unwearable. This would be a waste of money and previously beautiful jeans.

After a thorough consideration of the faults of back ripped jeans, I hope you can come to understand my point of view. Keep on wearing your regularly ripped jeans, I recommend it! But keep your booty covered and stick to fully sewn jeans in the back!
