A well placed accessory is invaluable. It can add that extra sparkle and flair of style to a formerly “meh” outfit. As college students, we don’t have much free cash laying around to spend on accessories. A simple silk scarf can be a fantastic and multi-faceted accessory. Silk scarves are cost effective and add color and style to any look. Here’s six different ways you can use a silk scarf to spice up your look!
Head band
Is your hair flying all over the place? Need something to keep your bangs/edges in check or just want to add some color to your look? Simply put your hair in whichever style you’d prefer and tie the scarf around your forehead. I suggest folding the scarf in half to make a large triangle and then folding or rolling the scarf to make a long strip of fabric before tying. You can push it up along your hairline, or pull it father back closer to the crown of your head for a more relaxed look. You can use bobby pins to secure the scarf if you have fine hair like me and its sliding off easily.
Tube top
If you’re wanting to be a bit more daring with your look and don’t want to buy any more crop tops, use a scarf. Take a large silk scarf and fold it into a triangle. After that, line the scarf up on your chest and tie in the back to secure. You can tuck under the point of the triangle, or leave it out depending on what style you are going for!
Hair bow
A silk scarf is an easy way to show some school spirit! Just put your hair up into a high ponytail and tie the scarf around your hair tie. Similar to the headband, I suggest folding the scarf in half to make a large triangle before tying. After that, tie a simple bow with the remaining material!
Neck scarf
A silk scarf can also an aura of elegance to an outfit. Use a smaller silk scarf to give a sophisticated french vibe to your look buy tying it in a simple knot around your neck. Adjust the tie so the knot and end are on one side and you have a super cute addition to your outfit!
Braid Accessory
Have you noticed how great scarves are for hair yet? Are you a fan of feminine braids? Then a scarf is perfect for you! You can add in a scarf as an additional strand in your braids to add in color and thickness to your hairstyle! Secure the scarf around your ponytail and braid it into your hair like usual.
Accent Belt
Sick of wearing the basic black leather belt? I love mixing different fabric textures in my outfits and using a scarf as a belt is a perfect way to do that! My favorite way to style a scarf as a belt is with rough textured mom jeans. It helps the high waist to fit better, and adds a whimsical flair to your outfit.
