You know that awkward time of the year when it feels like fall in the mornings and evenings but summer in the afternoons? It’s hard trying to figure out what to wear during this time. Do you wear warm clothes since it’s chilly and get hot later in the day? Or do you wear your summer outfits and just suck it up in the cold? Let me help you navigate this rough time of year with some tips and tricks.

Before you begin reading, you first need to think about where you tend to cold quicker. For example, my legs being exposed to the colder weather doesn’t bother me as much as when my arms are exposed. Keep your own body thermometer in mind when reading these tips and tricks.

My personal favorite trick for this pesky weather is to simply wear a cardigan or small jacket over my summer outfits. If you find a neutral color for this accessory, like grey or black, it will not ruin your outfit and you can wear it with various clothing combinations. You also may want to think about the type of cardigan or jacket you want. I tend to like mine long or oversized because I like that style; however, you can find more fitted ones if that’s what you prefer. This is my favorite because you can just take the jacket off when it gets hot and put it back on when it’s chilly. It’s just a very simple fix to the annoying weather.

If you’re body thermometer says that your legs being exposed makes you colder, you can wear jeans along with your summer shirts. The best jeans for this type of weather, in my opinion, are ones with holes in them. They let your legs breathe when it starts warming up in the afternoon. Not only does this trick help with the weather transition, but ripped jeans are also trendy right now.

The last tip I have can be mixed with the prior ones and is mainly for girls with long hair: always keep a hair tie or scrunchie with you. This trick allows you to quickly put up your hair when you get too hot. Allowing your neck some air when you’re burning up cools you down fairly quickly. One thing I like about keeping a scrunchie with me is I can match the scrunchie to my outfit. That way even when I don’t have my hair up, the scrunchie acts as a bracelet. Scrunchies have also been pretty trendy this past year, which means you won’t look silly wearing one and it won’t damage your hair as much as a normal hair tie.

I hope these tips and tricks can help you navigate this transition season. Stay warm (and cool)!
